The internet is a world-wide collection of different computer systems that consists of countless pieces of data. Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn are two names we don't hear too often, but are probably the two most influential people to shape this generation. Cerf and Kahn are two computer scientists that have been credited with the invention of the internet communication protocols used to this very day. During the cold war (1947-1991), the internet was used as a government weapon that allowed researchers and scientists to communicate with each other and share data to one another. Being raised in a time where the internet is used for everyday tasks like learning, getting groceries, getting directions and many other things, it is mystifying that people lived in a time not too long ago without its remarkable advances.

When speaking of the internet we often get it confused with the WorldWideWeb or better known as 'The Web.' The web is the leading information retrieval of the internet. In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee and his colleagues at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) created the HyperText Transfer Protocol. The HyperText Transfer Protocol allowed standardized communication between servers and clients, which then became available in 1992 for general use. When it initially was developed it was used for information sharing between scientists in institutions around the world for easy communication of findings. Nowadays, the web has evolved in a way to connect the world and increase communication through social networking sites, blogs, and many more.

Although the internet and the WorldWideWeb have many similarities considering the main focus is to increase communication all over the world they are not the same. The main differences between the two are that the world wide web is a collection of webpages that is found in a collection of computers which is known as the internet. So considering the internet consists of the world wide web it is safe to say that they work together. The internet and the web have changed tremendously and have increased the rate of communication in the world
and sharing with social media sites. Although many changes have
occurred the backbones of the internet and web have remained the same. They still consist of the same technologies that ran the first webpages that are still in use today.

Tim Berners-Lee also created the first web page, he published the web page on August 6, 1991 and dedicated  it to the information about the initial world wide web project. The firsts webpage outlined how to create a webpages and what hypertexts were. According to this web page, The WorldWideWeb is a vast area of hypermedia information retrieval with the goal to give universal access to certain documents. This is the URL for this web page http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html. Below is a photo of what this webpage looks like today.
